Now, it's quite the challenge, with two factions to face off against (if you choose to take Ireland) and more settlements to capture. In vanilla/retro, this took all of 5-10 turns and was quite easy (just take York, then the rest of the rebel cities, then Scotlands 1 or 2 little towns). And my favorite, conquering the British isles and Ireland is now much more of a task. Some of England's overpowered late HI got the nerf that they needed (used to make it so you didn't really even need your archers). First, archers seem better despite their lower damage stats (if someone could elaborate on why that might be go ahead). For all the features HAM lists of course, but in particular, I like what this mod has done for England's gameplay. SS - As a fellow England player (I play them all, but I love good archers) I highly recommend SS (6.1). As HAM said, just a rebalancing of the unit stats accompanied with some minor Kingdoms features (like the burning oil at castle gates). Retro - You actually need an additional mod to get the new units in Retro, AFAIK.

The AI has been overhauled and is much smarter than ever before. The unit balancing is far superior to Vanilla, allowing longer battles. The late era is something alot of people missed from MTW. It includes brand new factions (including playable Mongols). It has a completely new map with more regions than ever before.

Stainless Steel: Is effectively a complete overhaul of the game. The campaign remains exactly the same otherwise. Retrofit: The only real difference between this and Vanilla is the addition of Kingdoms units and the various tweaks to unit stats and sizes.
